THE MADARA HORSEMAN

The Madara Horseman is one of Bulgaria's nine 'wonders' inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This 23-metre-tall figure of a horseman who has stabbed a lion with his lance is carved into the vertical cliff of a plateau rising amidst an open plain. The Madara Horseman is the only rock bas-relief in Europe from the Early Middle Ages.
